About this site

This Francois Coulee (also called the Dan Dabaillonn Coulee) is an active waterway found within the 150 acre Acadiana Park Nature Station and trail system.  The term coulee comes from a french word couler, meaning "to flow".  This small stream drains from west to east along the ancient course of the Mississippi River (about 6000 years ago) into the Vermilion River.  This virgin forest is what is called an oak hickory bottomland hardwood forest and contains live oak trees over 500 years old.
