This site is near a bridge that spans one of the two creeks that feed Bear Creek Lake. Located on Lakeside Trail, this site looks over a quiet backwater of the lake. The area is the habitat of a variety of animals, including beaver who routinely alter the environment in response to drought and flooding. The photos will provide a first hand look at natural changes made to the environment over time that benefit the ecology of the immediate area.
Nestled in the heart of the Cumberland State Forest in central Virginia, Bear Creek Lake is less than an hour west of Richmond. It's the perfect getaway for the outdoor enthusiast. Activities center on the 40-acre lake with a boat launch, fishing pier, boat rentals and a swimming beach. Bear Creek Lake was built by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938 as a project of the Virginia Department of Agriculture through the State Forestry Division.
