Welcome to the beautiful site of Best Kept Secret, which offers stunning views over the extensive Cheshire plain.
To reach this vantage point, you have walked through the woodland identified on the 1836 Tythe map as the “Site of old house and buildings.” You are now standing on “Well Field,” where a natural spring still bubbles to your right.
(the annoying wet patch in winter.)
Here, you can spot wildflowers such as cowslips, scabious, yellow rattle, and, in some years, common or bee orchids.
Directly ahead, rising out of the valley, are the fields of “Broad and Broomy Hawks,” “Moor,” “Farley,” and “Jennet Ridding.”
For centuries, people have stood here, enjoying the same view, as evidenced by the many broken clay pipes and Roman coins found on this hilltop. 🐾
