About this site

This riverside area is missing important vegetation and streamside habitat. Without strong roots to hold the land together, it is rapidly washed away by forceful river flows. To protect this public park, and keep waters clean and clear, the Bitterroot Water Partnership worked with the City of Hamilton in 2021 to restore the length of native willows you see on the East side of the river bend. This vegetation will grow roots that can eventually stop the Bitterroot River from eating away at Skalkaho Bend Park while providing important habitat for birds and other wildlife.
