Visitors and obsevers should observe the regeneration, undergrowth of the forest and overall lushness of the area.
This one-hectare plot was fenced off in early 2024 in order to exclude roaming animals. There is ongoing trapping and control of invasive species in this plot. These two measures are aiming to restore the habitat, making it more suitable for Statia's critically endangered population of Bridled Quail-doves (Geotrygon mystacea), giving them a safe place to live, nest and breed.
This project, "Invasive Species Control and Restoration of Forest Ecosystems – Emergency Bridled Quail-dove Conservation" was funding by the Dutch Nature and Environmental Policy Plan (NEPP) with St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation as the implementing organization.
The St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation ( STENAPA) manages Quill and Boven National Park, St. Eustatius National Marine Park, the ReforeStatia Project and the Miriam C. Schmidt Botanical Garden.
