This chronolog station overlooks Habitat Haven, a prairie fen wetland located at the Kalamazoo Nature Center. These vulnerable wetlands are home to many species including those that are threatened and endangered. To maintain this high-quality prairie fen, the Kalamazoo Nature Center implements annual management in the form of invasive plant removal and prescribed fire. Current management in this area is being funded by a Sustain Our Great Lakes grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and a generous donation in honor of Dr. Betty Rita Gomez Lance, Kalamazoo College professor, scholar, and friend of the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
