Wills Creek Dam is a dry dam that is regulated and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It was built in 1936 and is authorized by Section 4 of the Flood Control Act of 1938. Primary project purposes are flood damage reduction, recreation, and fish and wildlife.
This Chronolog is placed over an approximately 9.0 acres of pollinator plot and interpretive bee barn. One of the Army Corps missions is to convert mowed lawn to pollinator plots. With over 150 milkweed plants, this plot is certified as a Monarch Waystation. A monarch waystation is a habitat, like a garden, that provides milkweed and nectar plants to support monarch butterflies during their migration and breeding cycles.
Chronolog is a monitoring tool for parks, nature centers, wildlife organizations, schools, and museums worldwide. With over 100,000 contributors across 300 organizations, Chronolog is on a mission to engage communities with nature while recording important natural changes.
