Tappan Dam is a rolled earth-fill structure located in Uhrichsville, Ohio, completed in 1936, and regulated and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Authorized under Section 4 of the Flood Control Act of 1938, the primary purposes of Tappan Dam include reducing flood damage, supporting local recreational activities, and promoting the conservation of fish and wildlife habitats.
This Chronolog is positioned along the shoreline of Tappan Lake, offering visitors a stunning view of the surrounding landscape and the dam itself. The lake, formed by the dam, is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, providing opportunities for fishing, boating, and wildlife watching.
Visitors can easily access the Buckeye Trail, which runs to the right of the Chronolog. The Buckeye Trail is a scenic and well-maintained hiking trail that weaves through Ohio’s diverse landscapes, offering hikers the chance to experience the natural beauty of the region. To the left of the Chronolog is the intake structure of the dam, a critical component of the water management system that helps regulate water flow and maintain lake levels.
Chronolog is a monitoring tool for parks, nature centers, wildlife organizations, schools, and museums worldwide. With over 100,000 contributors across 300 organizations, Chronolog is on a mission to engage communities with nature while recording important natural changes.
