About this site

The Funk-DeWald Nature Preserve Wetland Restoration created 16 acres of wetlands to improve water quality. The property was originally gifted to Heidelberg University in 1978 with a 20-acre wooded parcel being donated by Wayne D. Funk. The wooded portion of this property contains a wide diversity of tree species including red and swamp white oaks, beech, and hickory, as well as native undergrowth species such as Northern Spicebush. Mr. Funk later donated an additional 27-acre previously cultivated field that has since been left to progress into natural succession.
