In the summer of 2024, Rogue River Watershed Council (RRWC) implemented a restoration project at Bear Creek River Mile 19. This project worked to restore natural stream processes by improving the fire-damaged floodplain (Almeda Fire 2020) and side channel connectivity. This project worked to restore natural stream processes by improving the fire-damaged floodplain (Almeda Fire 2020) and side channel connectivity. Our restoration actions aimed to restore habitat for native fish and safeguard drinking water downstream through riparian rehabilitation and large wood placement. Additionally, these actions work to protect existing infrastructure by stabilizing the streambank and slowing water velocity.
The Council is excited to add this community science tool in two places along the restoration site. We monitor and steward restoration sites for several years after project completion, and your assistance is greatly appreciated in monitoring the vegetation, structures, and floodplain connection over the next few years. This site will capture log structures and channel recovery at the upstream end of the project footprint.
