This section of creek was restored in the summer of 2025. Previously, it was fully exposed to the sun and heavily overrun with reed canary grass, a highly invasive species that outcompetes native plants and can reduce oxygen levels in the water overnight, creating stressful conditions for aquatic life.
The reed canary grass was removed using an excavator, and the area was replanted with native trees and shrubs that now have the opportunity to establish and thrive. As these plants mature, they will provide shade to the creek, improve habitat conditions, and help suppress the return of reed canary grass.
