Staines Moor SSSI is the largest alluvial meadow area in Surrey. This means it is a natural floodplain and much of the rich diversity of wildlife relies upon the seasonal flooding across the site.
However, the frequency and intensity of flooding has been observed to be increasing rapidly in recent years as a result of climate change and increasing development both north and south of the site.
From this viewpoint, visitors can help us to document and understand changes in flooding and how these changes may be impacting the wider environment and wildlife. It will allow us to more carefully monitor features including the grassland, bramble and rush and help to guide their management more effectively.
