About this site

Trout Brook Nature area provides access to Trout Brook and and the Trout Brook Trail , a wooded trail in the middle of a residential area (view trail map ).

Photos taken at this observation site help us capture and monitor changes in the level and path of Trout Brook as it meanders through to Casco Bay. Stormwater and natural flows from ponds and small streams across South Portland and Cape Elizabeth frequently turn this gentle brook into a raging river.  New species of trees and plants continue to crop up in the preserve as we slowly remove invasive species and create more opportunity for biodiverse growth to take hold.

SPLT (in collaboration with Portland Trails, Custom Float Services and Keeley Crane), transformed an unmaintained gravel pit into a natural area with stream-side, deep wood and meadow trails, new signage, two new bog bridges and a new 45 foot bridge over Trout Brook. SPLT volunteers pitched in to do the work and our volunteer stewards keep the trails well groomed.

SPLT thrives because people like you contribute in many ways!!
