About this site

The Savannah Meadow at the Wildflower Center is a sweeping native grassland accented by scattered trees, offering a serene glimpse into the Texas Hill Country. A quarter-mile trail encircles the meadow, inviting visitors to explore seasonal wildflowers and spot wildlife year-round. The meadow sits above karst formations, including a cave, that feeds the Edwards Aquifer. Highlights include majestic live oaks and an ephemeral creek that reveals its presence through recumbent grasses even when dry. Periodic prescribed burns enhance biodiversity, making this meadow a living showcase of nature’s resilience and seasonal change.

About Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center uses native plants to restore and create sustainable, beautiful landscapes. We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation of native plants through our gardens, research, education, and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife, and enhance human health and happiness. In 2017, we were officially designated the Botanic Garden and Arboretum of Texas.
