With a focused history on coastal applications, the Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has played a vital role in protecting citizens and property along the Gulf Coast since 1987.  As an inclusive geospatial science research environment, CBI uses advanced technologies to map, measure, collect and manage data to predict the physical environment and support decision making. This site overlooks a shallow bay environment along Oso Bay near Ward Island. The landscape is comprised of exposed intertidal flats, shallow water, sandy to muddy sediments, and adjacent marsh vegetation influenced by tides and wind-driven water levels. The area provides habitat for coastal birds and other wildlife that utilize the flats and marsh for foraging. This station is used to monitor changes in water extent, sediment dynamics, vegetation patterns, and habitat use over time. Oso Bay

This site overlooks a coastal wetland system along the West Oso Bridge near Ward Island. The landscape is comprised of shallow tidal channels, emergent marsh vegetation, and exposed sediment areas that fluctuate with water levels. This station is used to monitor changes in vegetation extent, shoreline position, and hydrologic conditions over time. Oso Bay Bridge to Ward Island

This site overlooks University Beach, a CEPRA-restored shoreline completed in August 2001 along Corpus Christi Bay. The landscape is comprised of sandy beach, low dune vegetation, and engineered structures, including breakwaters and terminal groins that stabilize the shoreline and support sediment retention. The area provides important habitat for coastal birds, including seasonal nesting species such as Least Terns, Wilson’s Plover, and Killdeer. This station is used to monitor shoreline change, sediment movement, vegetation dynamics, and habitat use over time. Viewers should look for shifts in shoreline position, changes in water extent, variations in vegetation, and bird activity across seasons and weather events.
