Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Looking out across Beaver Marsh there is a great deal fo wildlife and plants to be seen. Though fringing the far edges of this boardwalked open water, your eyes hit a wall of invasive cattail and may pick out spots of color from invasive purple loosestrife. These invasive plant are targetted for treatment in order to provide more habitat for the wildlife who make Beaver Marsh their home.

Beaver Marsh - South

This area, called Stumpy Basin, is home to many excellent wetland plants. But those pockets of native plant life are threatended by ever-growning, and rapidly encroaching, invasive cattail. Treating the invasive plants through herbicide spraying helps give native plants more room to grow.

Kendall lake is great spot for visitors to fish and enjoy the dock. But across the water from this lawn space is a vertible wall of invasive plants. Our restoration project will target the treatment of the non-native cattail and phragmites that crowd the shoreline.

From the parking lot at Lock 29, you can look north towards a small open water wetland. The edges of this wetland are ringed by invasive phragmites- a tall grass that grows so tall and dense it blocks out any other plant from growing. This growth means that native animals loose important nesting and feeding habitat, so natural resource managers work to treat and remove this invasive species.
