First Landing State Park

Atop this overlook there is a 360 degree view of the environment flourishing along the banks of Long Creek. The transition from maritime forest, to tidal marsh, to shoreline is one of the most special views First Landing has to offer. Use this chronolog to capture changes in tide, waterfowl activity, the fluctuating colors of foliage, and active weather systems.

This view at the 64th St. boat launch includes a straight lookout to Broad Bay and Long Creek.  With a guest bench in view, First Landing hopes to capture guest activity, changes in weather, and boats moving in and out of this unique waterscape.

Here along the Osprey Trail the environment is constantly changing. Head out on this sandy trail to check out migratory birds, watch watercraft come and go, and count crabs as they move throughout this tidal zone. Built on a foundation of ever-shifting sand dunes and plagued by erosion, this ephemeral trail brings you to some of the most difficult to reach parts of the park.

The bald cypress swamps at First Landing are teeming with life. Here visitors can view rain-fed swamps and the many species of reptiles, amphibians, birds, and insects that call this environment home. While exploring this environment, expect to see leaves that change colors and fall into the swamp, fluctuating water levels, and if you are lucky, a glimpse of the 'rainbow swamp' effect.

The marsh ecosystem along Broad Bay is home to a number of species, including saltwater-tolerant plants, birds, crustaceans, and other marine creatures. From this viewpoint, visitors can observe ghost trees, crabs, wading birds, and, if one looks closely, multiple osprey nests.

First Landing's primary beach access is a popular spot for visitors to enjoy the sandy beaches along the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Guests can upload photos that capture weather, visitor activity along the shore, changing water conditions, beautiful sunsets, and more throughout the year.
