About Lakehead Region Conservation Authority

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) is mandated to ensure the conservation, restoration, and responsible management of Ontario’s water, land, and natural habitats through programs that balance human, environmental, and economic needs. Our objectives include ensuring Ontario’s watersheds are properly safeguarded, managed and restored: protecting, managing, and restoring Ontario’s natural habitats; developing and maintaining programs that will protect life and property from natural hazards; and providing opportunities for the public to enjoy and recreate in Ontario’s natural environments.

The LRCA’s vision is a healthy, safe, and sustainable Lakehead watershed for future generations. The mission is to lead the conservation and protection of the Lakehead Watershed. The LRCA proudly provides ten Conservation Areas for passive recreation within the Thunder Bay District, including:  

⭐ Cascades Conservation Area

⭐ Cedar Falls Conservation Area

⭐ Hazelwood Lake Conservation Area

⭐ Hurkett Cove Conservation Area

⭐ Little Trout Bay Conservation Area

⭐ MacKenzie Point Conservation Area

⭐ Mills Block Conservation Area 

⭐ Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area

⭐ Silver Harbour Conservation Area

⭐ Wishart Conservation Area
