Rogue River Watershed Council

In the summer of 2024, Rogue River Watershed Council (RRWC) implemented a restoration project at Bear Creek River Mile 19. This project worked to restore natural stream processes by improving the fire-damaged floodplain (Almeda Fire 2020) and side channel connectivity. Our restoration actions aimed to restore habitat for native fish and safeguard drinking water downstream through riparian rehabilitation and large wood placement. Additionally, these actions work to protect existing infrastructure by stabilizing the streambank and slowing water velocity.

The Council is excited to add this community science tool in two places along the restoration site. We monitor and steward restoration sites for several years after project completion, and your assistance is greatly appreciated in monitoring the vegetation, structures, and floodplain connection over the next few years. In this timelapse, we hope to capture potential beaver activity and monito the connection between the main and secondary channel in this section of the project footprint.

Bear Creek 2

Starting in 2017, Rogue River Watershed Council (RRWC) set to work to begin restoring Wild & Scenic Elk Creek. During the 2020 phase one of this project, RRWC installed large wood structures in strategic locations throughout more than two miles of channels, reconnected a seasonal side channel, and began treating 30 acres of floodplain forest to assist in native vegetation recovery.

We are grateful and excited to engage the public in monitoring this site. In the summer of 2025, we will continue the restoration by adding an additional 23 large wood structures, enhance another 0.45 miles of seasonal side channels, and recover 16.8 more acres to a native plant community.  Some of this collective work can be monitored from this station.
