Traip Academy 's mission is committed to ensuring engaging innovative, and rigorous teaching, learning and assessing for all students within a safe, healthful and respectful school culture that is free of bias and harrassment.

Traip Academy is part of the Momentum Conservation's Climate Change Observatory Network, a photo monitoring program designed to work with environmental organizations and communities to assist with the observation, measurement, and documentation of long-term climate change trends and climate adaptation projects.  

R.W. Traip Academy

The Climate Change Observatory is located by the salt marsh with views of the mudflat at Traip Academy, an approximately 1 acre enclosed area surrounded by development. It includes a small (<15 m2) stand of Phragmites to be monitored. This area is important to monitor and document changes over time because investigations in the salt marsh have previously indicated a number of trees subject to leaning and falling over from the effects of sea level rise. In addition, some reports suggest Phragmites may serve to buffer the erosive effects of sea level rise (SLR).

Mudflat View

The Climate Change Observatory views a tidal marsh at Traip Academy, an approximately 0.5 acre wetland surrounded by development. This marsh is monitored over time to observe the migration of low marsh species to the high marsh in response to sea level rise. In addition, the trees on the right are leaning and subject to falling. These changes are to be documented over the coming months and years as part of our school's coastal monitoring program.
