An overview of the Agua Puerca Creek riparian zone. The purpose of this photomonitoring point is to monitor vegetative cover and composition (vegetation type).
Cotoni-Coast Dairies is an onshore unit of the California Coastal National Monument. It is managed by the Bureau of Land Management Central Coast Field Office, located in Marina, California.
Cotoni-Coast Dairies (C-CD) is located near the town of Davenport in Santa Cruz County. C-CD was donated to the BLM in 2014 by The Trust for Public Land (TPL). It was designated a unit of the California Coastal National Monument in 2017. The property is distinguished by broad marine terraces separated by six forested, perennial streams that flow from the Santa Cruz Mountains into the Pacific Ocean. Dominant vegetation types of C-CD include non-native ruderal patches, non-native grassland, native grassland, coastal scrub, coast live oak woodland, chaparral, broadleaf forest, conifer forest, and riparian forest.
The area supports a wide variety of habitats and wildlife, including coho salmon, steelhead trout, California red-legged frogs, mule deer and mountain lions. A phased approach to recreation development will help protect the property’s sensitive biological and cultural resources. The plan identifies half the area as core habitat for fish and wildlife that will have limited recreational access.
