Basswood Pond State Forest Regeneration Project

Basswood Pond State Forest is located in Otsego County and has served as wildlife habitat, a source of forest products, and a picturesque backdrop for hiking and cross-country skiing for many years. The Civilian Conservation Corps planted Norway spruce at this site in the 1930s.  The trees here were harvested in 2024 after reaching biological maturity and the site was replanted with Norway spruce to jump start the next forest to be enjoyed for generations to come
