This site is on the overlook platform at the end of the basin trail that begins at the Ft. Fisher State Park Visitor Center. The trail is an in and out hike and is 1.1 miles one way. The station site overlooks the Zeke's Island Reserve basin with the dunes and ocean beach to the left and Cape Fear river to the right.
The NC Coastal Reserve & National Estuarine Research Reserve is a network of 10 protected sites established for long-term research, education, and stewardship. This program protects more than 44,000 acres of estuarine land and water, which provides essential habitat for wildlife; offers educational opportunities; and serves as living laboratories for scientists.
