About New York State Parks

The Central Region includes glacially carved lakes, lush forested valleys, a military fort, waterfalls, segments of the Erie Canal, 19th century estates, and more.

Green Lakes State Park is a must see with its two aqua-hued glacial lakes. The sylvan setting, miles of trails, campsites and cabins, a swimming beach and an 18-hole championship golf course, make it a favorite destination.

Gilbert Lake State Park is known as the "wildlife" park of the region, and welcomes campers to its campsites and cabins. At the eastern end of Oneida Lake, Verona Beach State Park boasts shaded picnic areas and popular campsites. Pixley Falls State Park offers visitors a dramatic 50-foot waterfall and miles of trout streams. Chenango Valley State Park features two glacier-created kettle lakes, superb camping and an 18-hole golf course .

Visit the impressive 19th century Fort Ontario State Historic Site. From the French and Indian War through World War II, this star shaped fort played an important part in military history.  Nearby Sandy Island Beach State Park offers a wide expanse of white sandy beach and a portion of a 17-mile stretch of protected dune and wetland system. Located on the heights above Lake Ontario, Selkirk Shores State Park is home to some of the finest fishing in the state and spectacular sunsets.

Hike, bike, canoe, kayak, or snowmobile at the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park. This 36-mile linear park runs alongside a historic waterway. Picnic creek-side at Chittenango Falls State Park as the water cascades over limestone terraces. Explore nearby Cazenovia and Lorenzo State Historic Site to tour the Lincklaen family's 1807 Federal-style home and formal gardens overlooking Cazenovia Lake.
