Claypit Pond was created from clay mining by a brick company in the early 1900s. Monitoring the site will help us observe the seasonal changes in aquatic plants and the trees growing around the pond. We are also monitoring water levels as the area experiences everything from droughts to flooding throughout the year.
Sandy Creek Nature Center is in Athens, GA. It is a facility of Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department and supported by the non-profit Friends of Sandy Creek Nature Center. There are 225 acres of property, much of it in wetlands.
