About this site

This stretch of beach on St. Phillips Island is what is commonly called a Boneyard Beach. It is a rapidly changing stretch of beach that allows us to visualize the dynamic nature of barrier islands and the effects of erosion. Over time, the ocean pushes further in, swallowing up the maritime forest and turning the trees into ghosts of their former selves surrounded by sand and sea.
