The Family Garden Play Meadow was designed as an open, inviting space where families could experience the beauty of native plants and seasonal change. Planned areas of grasses and wildflowers, creating opportunities for exploration and play. Interpretive elements highlighted the role of native landscapes in supporting biodiversity and sustainable design. After reseeding and restoration efforts, the meadow underwent a period of transition. As new seeds took root, we closely monitored the changes, tracking how the plant community evolved and flourished over time.
The University of Texas at Austin Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center uses native plants to restore and create sustainable, beautiful landscapes. We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation of native plants through our gardens, research, education, and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife, and enhance human health and happiness. In 2017, we were officially designated the Botanic Garden and Arboretum of Texas.
