The longleaf pine ecosystem at Halyburton Park is being restored through mid-story reduction of hardwoods, understory native wiregrass plantings and the use of controlled, prescribed fire. Longleaf pine forest are fire dependent and adapted with fire naturally occurring every 3-5 years benefitting a diversity of native plant and wildlife species.
