In January 2026, Boise Parks and Recreation removed 7-acres of dense Russian olive thickets from wetlands at Kathryn Albertson Park. Restoration efforts begin in spring 2026, include planting of hundreds of native trees, shrubs, grasses, and wetland meadow plants. Watch as plants grow and provide diverse habitat for wildlife using this urban refuge.

The south fork of Daniels Creek is a important perennial riparian area in Hawkins Range Reserve. The bridge was built allow recreational traffic to pass without disturbing the stream bed.  Help the City monitor the water flow, vegetation, and erosion of this sensitive spot.

Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve is a 53-acre haven for birds, animals and people located on the edge of Boise's West Bench. Once a gravel pit, the 44-acre site consists of a central wetland, surround by a simliar acerage of upland area, making it a refuge for wildlife in anotherwise urban area. The invasive wetland plant phragmities (Phragmities australis) was first observed in 2019 around the periphery of the wetland. Unfortunately, the southern half of the site is now a monoculture of weeds.  Treatments to restore the wetland back to native species are ongoing and we look forward to monitoring the progress with photos over time. 

Hyatt Hidden Lakes

Thank you for helping the City of Boise monitor ephermal Hulls Gulch Creek near the ancient Red Cliffs. The bridge was replaced and fencing was installed in 2022 to better protect this popular stream crossing. Significant erosion and soil loss has occured over the years due to heavy recreational traffic,  and restoration projects are underway to improve stream health and water quality.
