Gull Rock, E. Merle Waterfowl Impoundment

This forested wetland is dying due to pulses of saltwater during storms. We are interested in following the changes of this area over time.

Goose Creek State Park

The Soundside Loop Trail is located in the Cape Lookout National Seashore. You can see the remanants of a coastal forested wetland, aka a ghost forest. You can see snags (standing dead trees) and the shoreline. Behind the snags you can see a little bit of marsh vegetation (grasses) trying to get established. We are monitoring this area for the snags and the marsh vegetation. 

Soundside Loop Trail

We are interested in the health of this forest. Unfortunately there are many trees in this area that are dying. You can see some standing dead trees (snags) behind the live trees on the edge of the water.

Scuppernong River Interpretive Trail, Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

We are interested in how the vegetation and water level fluctuate in this tropical wetland. We want to better understand how rainfall patterns affect the status of this easily accesible tropical wetland. 

La Selva Canta Rana

We are interested in the health of this forest. Unfortunately, many of the trees in this forest area are slowly dying. You can see standing dead trees behind the live trees on the edge of the water. We are following the health of this forest.

Sandy Ridge Trail, Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge

The forested wetlands seen in the background are dying due to increased flooding and salinity. We are interested in following these forested wetlands over time.
