Thank you for visiting the Red Canyon Visitor Center! With this chronolog, you'll be contributing to a beautiful timelapse of one of the most scenic views on the Ashley National Forest. See the historic Flaming Gorge Reservoir change through the seasons, and watch the Uinta Mountain Range dazzle year-round. We hope you'll visit again soon! This Chronolog project was sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service and the Intermountain Natural History Association.
The Ashley National Forest was established in 1908 and has welcomed millions of visitors to northeastern Utah in the years since. 3 hours from Salt Lake City, the 1.4 million acres that make up the forest is a haven for people and wildlife alike. Designated in 1968, the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area boasts world-class boating and lake fishing, miles of hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and nature trails, a historic ranch, a fire tower, a state-of-the-art visitor center, and a blue-ribbon trout fishery found on the Green River below the Flaming Gorge Dam.
