Deerfield Island Park Gopher Tortoise Habitat

The upland sandy soils of Deerfield Island Park, provides habitat for one of the few remaining populations of gopher tortoises in Broward County. These tortoises excavate deep burrows that serve as homes to a remarkable diversity of other wildlife, like invertebrates, small mammals, and reptiles. Help us document changes in the habitat of our local gopher tortoises by taking a photo even if you do not see a gopher tortoise there.
