About this site

Welcome to Project R.I.S.E. (Recording Inundation Surrounding the Estuary), Peconic Baykeeper's community science and outreach initiative to document climate impacts and coastal change in the Peconic Estuary Watershed through community engagement by chronolog users like you! This is one of fifteen project sites in the watershed and we encourage YOU to capture photos from this and our other coastal sites whenenever you visit. Peconic Baykeeper hopes engaged coastal communities will work together to document their environment and learn how they can become resilient in the face of ongoing climate change. Learn more about Project RISE and our other programs here . This project has been funded by a grant from the Peconic Estuary Partnership and is further supported by our partners in conservation. Widow's Hole Preserve:

Widow's Hole Preserve, 2.4 acres located on the southeastern corner of Fourth and Clark Streets. Once a storage facility for ExxonMobil the facility operated above ground storage tanks for fuel oil, kerosene and gasoline. The land was donated to Peconic Land Trust  by ExxonMobil in 2012. Over the years erosion has made this site very vulnerable to sea level rise and continues today at an alarming rate. Currently, there is limited access to this preserve while ongoing shoreline restoration is ongoing.
